<p>In keeping with official guidelines laid down by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Royal Institute for Research on the History of Morocco (IRRHM) was founded on October 11th, 2005, with a view to promoting and publishing scientific knowledge on the History of Morocco. One of its main purposes was to provide scholarship firmly grounded in cultural pluralism and the promotion of dialogue. In order to combine citizenship with academic excellence the IRRHM called upon a bevy of academics, working side-by-side with field workers and intellectuals with an interest in matters historical.</p> <p>This volume attempts to give the enlightened lay reader an overview of Moroccan history. The material is based on the findings of outstanding recent research, and opts for a multi-disciplinary approach, combining the endeavours of historians, for the most part, together with those of scholars from various other fields. Thus, by encompassing various scientific approaches, it will have identified and shed light on certain obscure episodes, promoting fresh thought about these issues, and thus offering a coherent reappraisal of the country's history.</p> <p></p>
